Obama Legislation

It should be noted that this page was set up before the conclusion of the Obama Presidential election and although it is old news it has been left up for curious persons.

Below is legislation [the then] Senator Obama has been associated with, introduced or co-sponsored that should be noted. A couple are pieces demonstrating his stance on specific issues.

Although the articles can be found on the “willnevergiveup” site  — I’m adding a snippet with the link for the whole article.

Through my legislative search I’d come to find that Obama’s (presidential) campaign promises seemed to already be in Congress.

Faith-Based Initiative
Obama’s Former Church has received more than $1.5 Million in Federal funds since Obama took office.

The Global Poverty Act
This bill introduced by BO promises to send .7% of the Gross National Product (GNP) of our Government to aid “underdeveloped countries.” It would amount to $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends. Read whole article:

The Mortgage Rescue Bill
This bill that claimed to rescue American citizens in need ended up adding 235 amendments including a $35 million payout to the trial bar and grants to an illegal Hispanic advocacy group. This article also points to a website showing how many bills are currently in congress that give money to trial bars.

Juneteenth Independence Day
Six months after being sworn into office Senator Obama introduced legislation to delegate Juneteenth Independence Day. The holiday is designed to celebrate the African Americans who had been slaves.

Slavery Bill – Apology
An official recognition of slavery was recently passed. Days before the passing of this bill Obama made a speech at a “Journalists of Color” convention. When asked his position on slavery he gave his position statement. Days after the bill was passed he gave a different position statement to the public while on the campaign trail

Slavery Bill – Restitution
Another bill in congress right now authorizes $8M for a study to trace treatment of slavery from Africa to America and will decide whether  compensation is warranted.

Abortion Issues
In 1999, Nurse Stanek worked in the maternity ward at Christ Hospital in the southwestern suburbs of Chicago, which is affiliated with the United Church of Christ.. She describes her experience  with an aborted child and her encounter with Senator Obama.

Congo Relief

Predomintary Black Institution Act

PEPFAR 2
BO sponsored a bill that will send $50,000,000,000 (50 billion dollars) to assist foreign countries to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, “and for other purposes.” One of the “for other purposes” entails training, retaining, and supporting at least 140,000 new African health workers

Burried within this bill is an amendment to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to lift a ban on HIV/AIDS carriers from entering the U.S. or obtaining legal permanent residency.

The New World Order and Senator Biden

Responsible Fatherhood Act: One of his campaign promises from BO’s website listed under “Strengthen Families at Home” says:

Barack Obama has re-introduced the Responsible Fatherhood and Healthy Families Act to remove some of the government penalties on married families, crack down on men avoiding child support payments…

That bill not only robs $200 MILLION annually from our Social Security fund, but it also earmarks more than $25 MILLION of any money in the Treasury of the United States not otherwise appropriated for purposes of awarding grants.

The grants, in part will be funnelled to ex cons for various programs.

…strikes `LIMITATION ON USE OF’ and inserting `REQUIREMENT TO USE CERTAIN‘; and

…striking `may not award more than $50,000,000’ and inserting `shall award at least $100,000,000′.

In part the Bill reads:

Over 1/2 of State prison inmates are parents. 60 percent of African-American men have served time.

This bill bans a RECOVERY OF MEDICAID COSTS FOR BIRTHS. This bill also BANS RECOVERY of assistance costs provided by the state.

I’m also currently researching another statement Obama made on his website under “Eliminate Sentencing Disparities.” He believes the disparity between sentencing crack and powder-based cocaine is wrong and should be completely eliminated.

In a bill introduced by Senator Biden and co-sponsored by Obama, it proposes that both forms of cocaine cause identical effects, although crack is smoked, while powder cocaine is typically snorted. Additionally cites violence committed by crack users is relatively rare, and overall violence has decreased for both powder and crack cocaine offenses and adds, the negative effects of prenatal exposure to crack cocaine were vastly overstated. (this has been passed into law since the Presidential election)
