Phoenix slated for camera surveillance

The city of Phoenix has secured a three-year contract with Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc., for twelve fixed camera sites and two mobile speed systems.

The Phoenix/Redflex contract also offers two one-year extensions.

The contract allows Redflex enforcement of:

Mid-block speed
Railroad crossing
Light-rail crossing
Secondary violation capturing and processing

According to CameraFraud.Com secondary violations can be anything from equipment violations (head/tail lamp, overweight vehicle) to additional moving violations (such as seat belt/child seat, tailgating, etc).

As reported in an earlier article, our drivers’ license photos are being compiled into a biometric database which also includes mug shots, and state identification card photos. Surveillance camera images can be used against the database to isolate any persons of interest.

Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc. is the largest provider of digital red light and speed enforcement services in North America. With its US corporate headquarters located in Phoenix it holds contracts with more than 235 cities.

Redflex has recently announced multi-year contracts with Bullhead City, Arizona, Eloy, Arizona, and Farragut, Tennessee
